Trump Accounts More Than 500,000 Children Received $1,000 Deposits

June 6th 2026

President Trump announced the deposit of $1,000 into over 500,000 "Trump Accounts" to provide newborns with a stake in the stock market and facilitate early wealth building. The program launch featured the first-ever joint opening bell ceremony from the Oval Office with executives from both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. You can find more information on this initiative in official government announcements.

What are Trump Accounts
Trump Accounts are federally backed savings and investment vehicles for U.S. children under 18 that automatically invest in broad market index funds.

Created by the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act, they include a $1,000 government-seeded deposit for eligible children, with funds generally inaccessible until the child turns 18.

How Trump Accounts Work
Eligibility & Seed Money: Any U.S. citizen child under 18 with a Social Security number can open an account. Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, receive a one-time $1,000 seed contribution from the U.S. Treasury.

Contributions
Parents or guardians serve as custodians until the child reaches adulthood. Families, employers, and charities can contribute up to $5,000 per child annually.

Investments
Contributions are automatically invested in low-cost index funds or ETFs that track broad U.S. equity indexes, like the S&P 500. Management fees are capped at 0.10%.

Access & Penalties
Funds cannot be withdrawn prior to age 18. At 18, the account converts to a traditional IRA. Early withdrawals are subject to a 10% penalty, though exceptions are made for qualifying educational expenses or purchasing a first home.

How to Manage
Parents can monitor balances, track investments, and set up automated recurring contributions via the official Trump Accounts website or the Treasury's mobile app. Detailed guidelines and tax information are also available on the official IRS Trump Accounts page.
